Interview – Valentin Soare [ENG]

Valentin Soare is an acclaimed sculptor known for his groundbreaking use of everyday items. Over the years he has found various techniques in how to manipulate a lot of materials to make original masterpieces.in his works you can meet simple shapes that can create different feelings in you.

How did you realize you want to do sculpture?

[blockquote style=”2″]During Faculty I realized that I want to continue this way, and since then I participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, intervention in public space I name the latter :
„Temporal Perceptions” Royal Court – Bucharest 2013; ” The Finger of God ” Temporary Project in Public Space (original) who was on display for two years in the Garden of Bastille Bookshop Bucharest 2013-2015, „Déjà Vu” ART HUB Bucharest solo exhibition in 2013; „The Hanging Garden” at the Romanian Peasant`s Museum 2013; „The Finger of God” (copy) on the balcony of the Bucharest Faculty of History in the NAG # 8 in 2014 Intervention in Public Space ; „Inner Fire an Matter of Limits” during Bucharest Art Week 2014; “Borders and Disorders” Venice Art Week in 2015,and, not least, the debut in the Public Space in the
Project 1990 „The Star has a name” Free Press Square in Bucharest curator Ioana Ciocan 2013.
Due to this evolution I consider myself one of the young emerging contemporary artists.
I graduated the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Sculpture Department of the National University of Arts Bucharest, followed by a Master`s Degree in Sculpture in 2010 at the same University.

What inspires you?

[blockquote style=”2″]I am kind of a curious explorer and I am always looking for new question and answers. I feel equally attracted to nature and geometric forms. I dare to challenge the viewer by the freedom of the shapes born in the artistic process. The purpose the ongoing transformation of the world created to avoid limiting, seeking a perfect harmony between shape and concept.[/blockquote]

Which project kept your interest mostly ?

[blockquote style=”2″]The most important project for me is Intervention in Public Space „The finger of God” on the balcony of the Bucharest Faculty of History in the NAG # 8 2014. During this project I watched the interaction of the audience who was invited to participate to an open call towards a fertile imagination.[/blockquote]

What haven`t you tried and you would want to try in the future?

[blockquote style=”2″]Sculptor by construction, I have a sensitivity for stone and wood, but I don`t bypass other less noble material, I like to experiment, to head down a road of mine to identify with.[/blockquote]

What is your target audience?

[blockquote style=”2″]First, I think you need to be honest with the items you make and after that, the public appears.[/blockquote]

How do you see yourself in five years?

[blockquote style=”2″]In five years? I see myself in a constant search for the aesthetic ideal. So, I alternate the dream`s transfer, I fluctuate between monumental and miniature, I try to give free rein to my imagination and to the artistic creation rate.[/blockquote]

What advice will you give to those that want to do sculpture?

[blockquote style=”2″]To follow their dream only if they really want that![/blockquote]
